If you have visited us in the last couple of years, you will likely have seen for yourself that Catkins is OUT OF ROOM!! We need more space!
In 2023, Catkins Animal Rescue took in 475 animals, and all but 3 of them were from Price County! Our small, 10-kennel rescue worked from sun up till sun down each day to fit in as many animals as we could each week, and give them the best possible care. It was a whirlwind to say the least, and we saved so many lives of precious animals that deserved the best in life. Together as a community, we all made it possible for them to have that.
We took in emergency cases, abuse and neglect cases, hoard victims, as well as an unusually high number of surrenders due to the inflations of costs for nearly everything. We have also seen a sad uptick in abandoned animals that were left to fend for themselves until found by good folks who reported it.
Here we are one month into 2024, and it has not slowed down. Our phone is ringing all day long with calls for strays and surrenders. We have waiting lists for dogs and cats that never seem to end. We continue to fill every kennel we can each day, and look for fosters to help out as well. Still, space can only stretch so far, and some of these animals wait weeks or months to come in. It is frustrating for all involved, including us. We want to help, knowing no one else likely will. However, our team is small, and our building even smaller.
The time has come for us to take action to help this animal crisis in our area and to expand our building to meet the needs of our community. Our current facility is also in high need of upgrades and repairs from the wear of daily cleaning and having so many animals contained within its walls.
Therefore, we have started our new year of fundraising with an expansion in our sights!!
Our goal is to add on footage to the front and back of our current facility, adding more dog kennels and restructuring our entire cat area to make a much more user-friendly and cat friendly area. We are currently using a very small closet for a med room, and donβt have a meet and greet area for adoptions. Our main cat room is very small, often housing 50 or more free-roaming cats, sometimes more. In a recent survey we sent out to our volunteers, the number one request was: WE NEED MORE SPACE!
Today we kick off our official…..![]()

We will keep you updated on our progress to reach our goal of expanding several feet onto both the front and the back of our facility as well as refiguring our current space to make a more user-friendly facility. We also need to upgrade our heating system and hopefully add an area for a washer/dryer/laundry, that we currently don’t have any space for.
We cannot wait for the day we can make even more of a difference for these animals-SO many need us! Together we can make this happen, and we are so looking forward to the day we can say we reached our goal! Please share and spread the word!
